Users review: I havent read the book, so I do not read this as an adaptation, but a stand-alone movie. (From what Ive heard it is quite far from the original source in every case.) First, the zombie movie watered and free of blood and gore? This idea alone could lose. Large piece (pun intended) hardcore fans in the audience as it power over your attention? By stringing you along the edge with tension and suspense from beginning to end. It does a very good job of keeping this power, even without the standard elements of horror slasher flicks.Brad Pete fits easily into the role of a family man desperate to protect his family. It's not hard to root for him and share his urgency. Certainly makes its charm and keeps the film from their mistakes (and there are many!) Not the least of which is its gaping plot holes and loose direction.The audience in the theater seemed to have fun and shouting along to be entertained and played with. There are a few funny scenes (intentionally or unintentionally). If you are ready to stop the analysis of film as a critic, you are likely to start using it.After all, when a zombie movie to be?
