Users review: I think what worked in Luhrmanns Gatsby: Gatsby I thought DiCaprio was better than Robert Redford (Redford was a very old man with no regard to the character). I thought DiCaprio understand complex character and it was not enough mobile convincing.I Carey Mulligan and think that it is more convincing as Daisy.I like when the story stuck with Fitzgerald - and 75% of time. (Having just read the book again in 6 months ago, I recognized most of the conversation as a real book) I thought Costume Design is good. Catherine Martin has worked on costumes for each Baz Luhrmanns film which won an Academy Award for costumes in Moulin Rouge (as well as the appointment of Romeo + Juliet and Australia yet his work is excellent here -!. A real strength of the film. 2nd half .. I think the film is much better than 1. Whilst I generally did not like the soundtrack I loved that Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue snuck in at the first exhibition in Manhattan Valley of Ashes . It did not work at the Gatsby. On convened as and when the last party scene, the soundtrack is better than the rest of the film feels like Fitzgerald to me.BTW - I am generally a fan of Baz Luhrmanns. I loved Romeo + Juliet when being panned by professional critics. And I saw Moulin Rouge! sweet .. (Nuff said) Moet Champaign Joel Edgerton (who apparently bought a majority stake in the film) the production of over-the-head highlights garishness serious social theme of the day will be lost almost entirely.
